Especially with all the homeless camps around town it can be really scary for people to walk around outside. And most of the other spaces in town are either businesses or parks, where they're not allowed to do the kinds of things they actually like to do, assuming they had the time.
The biggest reason people don't have time is because they're always working to pay or save up for rent and retirement. But if people knew that they would always have shelter, and healthcare, then they would finally have time to live the way they want to. Many call this "structural oppression", while others argue it's the natural consequence of people being allowed to sell their houses for as much as people are willing to pay. -It is important to note however, that often property is bought up by large companies and held at high prices to create scarcity, which then leads to them getting paid the prices they want. It's a predatory system, that forces people to work so much they don't have time or resources to be social. And then they get used to it and often even become anti-social.
There's also psychological aspects to be considered. Trauma can lead to all kinds of disconnection, not to mention the potential for all the other mental disorders that exist.
